Did anyone get any bargains in the Borders closing down sale? In my local store they reduced all books to just 5p in the end! Unfortunatley I had already left by then! |

eBooks
I have had a word with Mr Claus and found out that I will have an eReader in my stocking this year. I have found a few good eBooks on The Pirate Bay, and bought a couple from Waterstones, but does anyone else have any suggestions fror where to buy or procure them from? |

it's cold and snowy outside, christmas draws ever closer, after that the new year... who else is excite for the january sales? here's some general discussion of sales: how do we feel about them? do you avoid buying things, hoping they'll be on sale soon? how often do you buy things and the next day it's %50 off? do you leave things that you know everybody will recognise? personally I'm enjoying h&m's current sale, some good stuff in there. although, I got a flowy purple dress the other day for £10, now it's £5. sigh! at times like this I comfort myself with "well, I wouldn't have got to use/wear it within that time if I'd got it just now". pretty heartbreaking when I haven't used it yet and this happens. also some plaid-tweedy-ish (not sure what to call it) grey trousers which I wouldn't have got unless they were marked down, to be honest, but I'm loving already. gonna go back and get the black ones too, ahah. also hoping to see the red-riding-hood petite range ADORABLE coat from topshop marked down in january... finger's crossed. £80 is way too much for a highstreet item to me. |

I'm a bit of a fan of fashion blogs, but I'm after some new ones to read/follow. I like the kind with photos of people out on the streets, like The Satorialist and blogs about people's own style like Style Bubble rather than endles lists of what's new on the catwalks. Basically I prefer real fashion put together by real people on realistic budgets. I'm a student, so blogs of people who are always buying the latest It Bag or Gucci's new collection aren't that helpful for me. Any reccomendations? What do you look at for fashion inspiration? Two very different questions.. 1. I am planning my friends hen party for the end of july 2010. We have decided to take her to London to see Dirty Dancing and, since her mam and his mam are a bit older they'd prefer not to be away for the weekend so it's just us 5 girlies! We decided to get a suite in a hotel so we can have a 'sleepover' and not have to split up at the end of the night. Any recommendations for hotels near Aldwych Theatre. Also recommendations of restaurants/bars/clubs around that area so as we dont have to do much taxi'ing around!! Anyway seen the Dirty Dancing show? Any good? 2. Anyone know of any good message boards that are quite active? ta xo |

Discussion post
What do you all think about this: Are impossible beauty standards a subconscious cultural reaction against women's growing political power?? Excerpt form the article (but do read it all!): "Thinking about what the last decade has meant for American women, I kept coming back to the increasingly cruel physical scrutiny that they're subject to. Impossible beauty standards seem like a subconscious cultural reaction against women's growing power. It's fine for women to do everything men do - as long as they stay skinny, sexy, young, and soignée [= elegant, well-groomed] at the same time. The surveillance culture of the Internet and the tabloids sends a message to all women that to let oneself go for even a moment is to open oneself up to a psychotic Greek chorus of abuse. Even as our politics get a little bit better for women, the broader public climate grows more unforgiving by the day." Do you agree? On a more personal level, do you ever think about whether the time you spend on beauty (and fashion) means you're missing out on doing something else? Sometimes when I shave my legs I think "Fuck this, I could be working on my masterplan for world peace"... |

Hi i think there's a post about proper hair extensions in the tags but it was made like a year ago so i figured more people might have had them/know about them now. right basically i've just got some money that i didn't know i was going to get so i want to treat myself (otherwise i wouldn't even be contemplating this) &i've been looking into proper hair extensions, as in not the clip in type. does anyone have any stories about them? horror or otherwise. how much on average do they cost? my hair is pretty thick so would it cost more because of this etc? &what type is best? aftercare? i don't want to end up with ratty horrible OBV FAKE hair. in short, tell me stuff about real/long term hair extensions. |

Thigh length jumper help needed!
Hello everyone. I'm new here, so I think I'd better start with an introduction. I'm Fran and I'm 15 from Essex.
Basically, I really want to buy this thigh length jumper from Topshop, but I don't know what I would wear it with. Leggings or jeans? Also, as it is a jumper, could you wear another layer over the top or not, such as a cropped jacket? I really don't like buying an item of clothing unless I have an idea in my head of what the whole look will be (control freak, I know.) Please help! All suggestions are welcome.

gift for a new dad?
Friends of mine are expecting their second child at the end of January, and as well as a little something for the baby I'll get something for the mum and also for their other child (who will be almost three when the baby arrives) so that he doesn't feel left out - but I think I should get something for dad too! Obviously I don't want to spend loads as I'm getting 4 presents; I'm getting a little toy and some cute bibs for baby, this for mum and a cuddly toy of some description for their other child. I was thinking maybe earplugs and a sleep mask for dad - does anyone have any ideas? Highstreet, not online please!
Thanks! |

Egypt and holiday essentials
Hi everyone :) Myself and boyfriend have booked a last minute holiday to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt... and we're having a terrible time finding holiday essentials (sun cream, mosquito repellent etc etc), because all of the shops are full of Christmas things. Does anyone have any idea of where I might find them other than Boots? (Consequently, I'm a Boots Xmas temp and their wages I can't afford their products...) I'm on quite a low recent graduate budget so any sneaky ideas would be very welcome! I live in Coventry so I've got access to most stores :) Also! I just remembered I needed advice. Has anyone been to Sharm? Any advice? We've heard good and bad things... :D |

new years eve outfit help!
Hello ladies :) i am needing your help to source some pieces for a new years eve murder mystery party! its one of those kits you buy where you each have a named character and you dress up! anyway ours is a 60's themed party and my character is "bab's crayfish" (???) and my costume suggestion is "frothy, pink and plastic, bubbly hair". so i was going to ask... has anyone seen any pink, short, could-be-sixties dresses in primark? where would i buy a cheap-ish blonde wig on the highstreet? |

I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with being in a relationship with someone in the armed forces? More specifically the navy? I've recently got together with my boyfriend and he has to move down to plymouth for 4 months and I stay 500 miles away. I really didn't think it was going to bother me that much and I knew what getting myself in for but I'm getting more and more upset as the time goes on. How do use cope when they are away, does it affect your relationship? Or just general long distance advice? And so everyone can join in. Would someone being in the armed forces put you off having a relationship with them? |

Hair help pleeeease!
I've got an appointment booked on Wednesday to get my hair cut for the second time this year. I've had the same hairstyle for about 6 years, apart from 1 time when I got it cut short but that quickly grew out. I never know what to do with it and am pretty rubbish at maintaining any kind of neat style due to being incredibly lazy and bad with hair.
If anyone can suggest any styles, or if you think I should keep it for another 6 years, please tell me! I feel like someting different should be done! Here are some pictures of what it's like...

I have an annoying dilemma; Every pair of leggings i buy go baggy at the knee or crotch i'm about a size 6/8 and i'm fed up of buying leggings that after wearing them once or twice go horribly baggy. Has anyone here good quality leggings that don't do this? (no jeggings please ^_^) thanks |

decent hairdressers in Bath/Bristol
This might be a bit of a longshot, but I need a decent haircut soon or I'm going to end up having half of it chopped off thanks to the hideous amount of split ends I have these days!
Can someone recommend a good hairdresser in the Bath area? I would be willing to travel to central Bristol as well if it was genuinely worth it - I don't want to spend an absolute fortune though, all I need is someone who can give me a fantastic cut (so no colourists please).
Thanks in advance! |

Dressing up...
I bought this dress with the intention of wearing it for New Year's Eve, but I'm not sure what to wear it with - shoes and whatever. Does anyone have any ideas? The dress is quite shiny so I'm thinking I should go for non-shiny things, but other than that... And would it look ok with black tights? I'm pretty sure it'll be freezing that night! |

Lolita
So my sister is a fashion and marketing student and she has to write an essay on the Japanese lolita fashion sub-culture and its influences on western culture/ western cultures influences on it? She's majorly stressed so does anyone have any journal or book suggestions that might help? Or any of your own personal experiences/knowledge? It's just a case of her bulking up the word count now Thanks girls :) xx |
